My Grandma, Virginia McDavitt, passed away at about 5:00 am this morning. There are many reasons why I'm proud to be a McDavitt, and she is one. Though it's a little bit of a sad day for us, it's a happy reunion day for her and Grandpa.
Grandma was always kind (not just her words, but her actions and intentions). She was quiet and thoughtful. She was generous and helpful. She never seemed to lose her patience or her temper. (I wonder if she was born that way, or if she developed that capacity by practicing her whole life.) She was humble. Humble in the way she lived, and humble as a daughter of God. She was always careful with her resources, even when she didn't have to be (e.g. washing and reusing aluminum foil). She was faithful and obedient to whatever the Lord asked of her in family life and in church callings, and she enjoyed the accompanying blessings. She was a great example of graceful womanhood and dedicated motherhood, grandmotherhood, and great-grandmotherhood.
Even though her mortal time is over, her example will continue to speak to me through my memories of her. Thank you, Grandma, for the blessings that your love and life's choices have brought to so many of us. Though we will miss you, the world seems just a little more right today because you are with Grandpa again. I love you both.
